What does this activity involve?

The people undertaking these types of roles will be involved with in-year financial management, adding value to the numbers by providing insight and analysis. Types of activity include:

  • Board Reports: All tasks and activities related to populating and drafting board reports for decision making.
  • Management accounts: All tasks related to producing monthly management accounts in accordance with Government Accounting principles.
  • Other standard reports: All tasks related to producing other standard finance reports and dashboards.

The size of the department and the structure of the team will determine the proportion of an overall role this activity makes up.

Typical Role Responsibilities

Management Reporting EOs are responsible for analysis of the ledger to understand the financial position and supporting the team to produce financial reports.

Management Reporting HEOs are expected to perform important month end activities, ensure accuracy and provide insight, which supports the team to produce financial reports.

Management Reporting SEOs are expected to produce the monthly financial reports to meet budget holders needs

Management Reporting G7s are responsible for reporting the financial position at strategic level for the business area they support in order to provide insight and highlight the key issues, risks and opportunities to the budget holder, with the ability to convey a message and "tell the story" around financial information.

Management Reporting G6s have a key leadership role and are responsible for understanding and reporting the financial position at strategic level to provide insight and highlight the key issues, risks and opportunities to senior budget holders and leadership teams in the context of both the business areas supported and the overall financial position of the department, with the ability to convey a message and "tell the story" around financial information. They are likely to be responsible for managing multiple teams and/ or supporting larger and more complex areas of the business.

Management Reporting SCS 1s are responsible for leading the financial management function to deliver accurate and timely financial information that meets the business needs, providing financial analysis and insight.
