Management Accounting SCS 1s lead financial management with accuracy and insight, support strategic intelligence, collaborate across departments, liaise with HMT, and foster continuous improvement to align with best practices.

Typical Role Responsibilities

Management Accounting SCS 1s:

• are responsible for leading the in-year financial management function to deliver accurate, robust and timely financial information that meets the business needs, providing financial analysis, insight and challenge.
• provide strategic intelligence to support the financial management of the organisation, building collaborative relationships across the department and wider government.
• liaise with HMT on the in-year position, setting out the department's position and challenges, and may lead on the Estimates process and reserve claim negotiations.
• are expected to embed a continuous improvement culture ensuring that processes are compliant and aligned to government finance best practice.

Only suitable for staff with the required skills and experience from within finance.

Typical Qualifications

Essential:

• Finance qualified with CCAB, CIMA or equivalent

And

• Financial experience over an extended period of time

Tasks

• Manage large and complex budget portfolios

• Understand and explain the latest financial results at senior levels in the organisation, e.g. Board meetings

• Use strong analytical ability and credibility across all aspects of financial management

• Use financial and wider performance analysis to challenge the status quo

Qualifications

Essential

• Qualified with CCAB, CIMA or equivalent

• Financial experience over an extended period of time

• CIMA Accelerated qualification is available for G6s and SCS1 with the relevant experience.
