Role summary

Management Accounting G6s play a pivotal role in leading teams, managing complex business areas, and providing strategic financial insights to senior leaders, ensuring informed decision-making and effective risk management.

Typical Role Responsibilities

Management Accounting G6s:

• have a key leadership role and are likely to be responsible for managing multiple teams, supporting larger and more complex areas of the business or multiple organisations.
• are responsible for understanding and reporting the financial position at strategic level to provide insight and highlight the key risks, issues and opportunities to senior budget holders and leadership teams, in the context of both the business areas supported and the overall financial position of the department.
• use financial information to convey messages and 'tell the story', highlighting where there is cause for concern or a need to act.
• are expected to deal with greater complexity and manage ambiguity.
• may provide expert advice to Ministers, Senior Officials and Boards where appropriate.
• may lead on aspects of external reporting and liaise with HM Treasury on in-year funding and budgets.

Entry Route

Only suitable for staff with the required skills and experience from within finance.

Essential:

• Finance qualified with CCAB, CIMA or equivalent

And

• Financial experience over an extended period of time

Responsibilities

Tasks

• Provide advice and guidance to team and senior managers on all aspects of management reporting activity as a recognised expert

• Anticipate and respond to changes in the business and operating environment, helping the team develop solutions to high risk or high profile areas of activity

• Oversee the delivery of accurate management reports with a breadth of reporting throughout the organisation and to external users

• Intelligent analysis of complex financial information, drawing out common themes and understanding linkages and dependencies

• Maintain a detailed understanding of the overall financial position of the organisation and business units

• Present insightful analysis to influence and challenge senior managers and decisionmakers

• Undertake scenario modelling and provide a range of options to inform budget holder decisions

Qualifications

Essential:

• Accelerated qualification is available for G6s and SCS1 with the relevant experience.

This role is only suitable for non-finance professionals or individuals with significant previous experience in management accounting.?
