Role summary

Management Accounting SEOs prepare monthly financial reports, collaborate with stakeholders to provide insightful analysis, manage risks and opportunities, and support both internal and external reporting.

Typical Role Responsibilities

Management Accounting SEOs:

are responsible for preparing monthly financial reports that meet budget holders' needs and for ensuring that budgets and forecasts are accurately uploaded and reported.
work closely with Finance Business Partners and other key stakeholders (which may include budget holders) offering analysis and challenge, and providing and interpreting timely financial information that 'tells the story' and adds insight.
have an understanding of risks, issues and opportunities and ensure these are captured, monitored and escalated where necessary.
build collaborative relationships with other finance colleagues to support the business.
may support on aspects of external reporting, such as to HM Treasury and Parliament.

Typical Qualifications

Recommended:

Level 4 qualification with AAT, CCAB or CIMA

Qualified with CCAB, CIMA or equivalent

Working towards qualification

And

Financial experience over an extended period of time

Responsibilities

Tasks

Lead the preparation, interpretation and presentation of in-year financial information into the monthly financial reports
Provide assurance on integrity of information on financial systems, advising on the correct accounting treatment of complex transactions
Provide financial analysis and insight, through meaningful variance analysis commentary including risk management, mitigating actions, deep dives or financial modelling
Ensure effective controls are in place to maintain accuracy of data in financial systems
Ensure team delivers the month end activities in a timely manner and to the required standard

Interpersonal Skills

Support Grade 7/6 Senior Management Accountant in producing the monthly financial reports
Develop collaborative relationships with key stakeholders e.g. Finance Business Partners, Governance, senior budget holders (customers)
Good coaching and leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage a team (where appropriate)
Ability to effectively negotiate with stakeholders
Effective communication of financial data and collaboration with team members and leadership.

Staff in this role typically move into other SEO roles in Finance, for example Financial Operations SEO, or progress to Management Accounting G7.
